SEVEN GLOBAL SPECTRUM-MANAGED CANADIAN VENUES NAMED TOP SPOTS BY VENUES TODAY'S
The Encana Events Centre in Dawson Creek, British Columbia ranks number one in Western Canada for Venues 2,001-5,000 Capacity
Seven Global Spectrum-managed Canadian venues rank amongst the top venues in all of Canada, according to concert industry publication Venues Today Magazine for 2014.
According to Venues Today, the General Motors Centre in Oshawa, ON, ranked first in its size category (5,001-10,000 capacity) with 107,348 patrons, attending 36 events, grossing $5,888,645. Hamilton Place in Hamilton, ON, a 2,205-seat venue Global Spectrum manages, ranked first in the 2,001-5,000-seat category, attracting 85,876 patrons to 81 events, grossing $3,576,906. The Encana Events Centre in Dawson Creek, BC, ranked third in this category with 12 events, drawing 37,002 patrons and grossing $2,292,539.
“It is always a great honour to be recognized by being ranked number three in Canada which actually places us number one in Western Canada for a venue of our size,” said Global Spectrum’s Ryan MacIvor, General Manager of the Encana Events Centre. “With another big year at the Encana Events Centre with tour stops from Brad Paisley, Luke Bryan, The Doobie Brothers, John Fogerty and Russell Peters and great events like the Annual Gun Show and Spring Breakup Rodeo, this is a great achievement for all the staff but more importantly to the fans and citizens who support this great venue and make it a great place to stop.”
“What a great achievement for the staff at the Encana Events Centre being ranked as the third top spot in Canada which shows what a great asset the Centre has been to the community and the region,” said Dale Bumstead, Mayor of Dawson Creek. “With another recent article naming Dawson Creek as the number one small city in Canada, these both are great accomplishments that the citizens of Dawson Creek and the region should be proud of.”
Trailing right behind the GM Centre is the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre which finished second in the 5,001-10,000 capacity with 64,598 visitors to 38 events, grossing $2,297,282 and the South Okanagan Events Centre which finished third with 55,639 visitors to 25 events, grossing $2,213,127.
"Canada is a tremendous market for Global Spectrum," said Global Spectrum President John Page. "With a number of facilities in key destinations for us, we're able to create synergistic opportunities to attract top-notch entertainment and events to our Canadian venues. We continue to see great numbers at our venues and these recognitions are a true testament to the hard-working staff we have at all of our Global Spectrum-managed venues."
The Budweiser Gardens in London, ON, ranked first in the 10,001-15,000 capacity with 70 events, attracting 314,671 patrons and grossing $19,333,425. The FirstOntario Centre in Hamilton, ON, secured the fourth position in the 15,001-30,000 capacity with 36 events, 190,010 visitors and a gross of $10,111,858.
The Encana Events Centre has experienced an exciting 2014 leading up to this acknowledgement as they were hosts to such sold out shows as Russell Peters, two nights of Luke Bryan, The Backstreet Boys and Brad Paisley. This is a great accomplishment as the facility celebrates its sixth year of operations.
